DORCHESTER Town are making “small steps” in their climb up the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table, according to assistant James Wood.

Sitting 18th before tonight’s trip to Truro City – who play at their temporary home of Bolitho Park in Plymouth – Dorchester have taken seven points in four games.

Fourth-placed Met Police are the only side to beat the Magpies in that timeframe and Wood insists Glenn Howes’ men meet Truro in confident mood.

Ahead of the 7.45pm kick-off, he told Echosport: “Any time you play Truro it’s a difficult game.

“We’ve seen so many positives from this group since we’ve been here and it is small steps.

“We’re getting better and better and better. We’re going full of confidence, hopefully with a few players back in the squad.

“There might be a few changes because there are a lot of tired legs, but we go there to win the game, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Charlie Madden (hamstring) and Oakley Hanger (knee) could return after missing Saturday’s 2-0 loss to the Met.

On Hanger’s issue, Wood said: “It’s an historical problem. It’s a bursa, a little (fluid sac) behind his knee that gets inflamed.

“When it gets to a certain degree it runs the risk of popping. When that happens he’s out for a period of time. It just needs rest and managing.

“We’ve taken that decision for him. It was too much of a risk. That lad’s been excellent for us in the games he’s played. We don’t want him out over the Christmas period.”
