FIREFIGHTERS have been called to a property fire in Weymouth town centre.

Crews from Weymouth Fire Station were mobilised to the blaze on King Street after receiving a call at 9.40am this morning.

The fire was located on the balcony of a third floor flat. The fire has been extinguished and there are no reported injuries.

A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a property in King Street, Weymouth at 9.40am this morning for a fire on the third floor of the premises – the building has commercial use on the ground floor with flats above.

"Two crews and the aerial ladder platform from Weymouth attended, and two breathing apparatus wearers used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

"A thermal imaging camera has also been used to check there’s been no fire spread within the building or to adjacent buildings. Nobody needed rescuing and there’s no mention of any injuries.

"One crew from Weymouth are still on scene to support the fire investigation."

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 9.43am by the fire service requesting assistance as they responded to reports of a fire at a property in King Street in Weymouth.

"Officers attended to assist.

"It was reported shortly before 11am that the fire had been extinguished and officers left the scene."
