A celebratory occasion is the theme of today's Big Picture.

This unusual wedding took place in Osmington in the winter of 1940.

Getting married were Bert Osbourne and Gladys Baker. Bert was a member of the Osmington Home Guard platoon.

The rest of the men formed the guard of honour at the wedding.

Historian John Pidgeon, who has an interest in the Home Guard, tells us: "They are equipped with American P17 300 calibre rifles.

“Good job the bayonets are well fixed.”

The Osmington platoon was led by Lt Henry Eccles Wolfe OBE, formerly Captain in the Royal Navy, who lived in Osmington Cottage.

He resigned 18/6/1943 on reaching the age limit and died a few months later.

Osmington was part of No 4 Company (Preston) in the 5th Battalion Dorset Home Guard.
