This charming old photo shows a much less developed Weymouth in 1959.
It's a view of Coombe Valley Road looking towards Portland and was shared with us by local history enthusiast Geoff Pritchard.
The rural aspect is very much in evidence, before the development of the land to the east. This land is now covered with houses, many of which enjoy a sea view from the scenic spot.
Some of our readers will remember this part of the coast being just like this.
Margaret Smith recalls: "In the 1950s and 60s this used to be a favourite Sunday afternoon outing for my parents.
"We kids used to love running as fast as we could down the slope, and could never understand why our parents were so much more careful going down!
"Sadly, I now fully understand their careful hesitant descent!"
If you have a scanned picture of this local area of good quality and high resolution you think would be suitable for the Big Picture section on Mondays and Thursdays, email it to joanna.davis@dorsetecho.co.uk with around 150 words of information on it.
