PORTLAND United boss Franklyn Clarke believes the best of midfielder Riley Weedon is yet to come following his move from Bridport.
Weedon, a precocious talent who rose through the Bees’ ranks, has found game time restricted at the Camp & Satherley Stadium.
Minor injuries have so far limited his minutes at the Blues, but Clarke feels the maestro’s match-winning goal against Hamble can kick-start his Portland career.
“Riley’s been really unlucky with injuries since he joined us,” the islanders’ manager told Echosport.
“We haven’t seen the best of Riley yet. I’ve seen what he can do and he’s shown glimpses, but with injuries it’s been tough for him.
“Getting that goal, he deserved it. Hopefully that starts his season and he really kicks on.
“We had a conversation about trying to stay fit. The injuries he’s had, to be fair, he couldn’t have helped. It’s been knocks for him.”
