FIRES started at a popular car park have been blasted as 'mindless' - as police officers aim to curb anti-social behaviour in the area.

Patrolling police officers were called to the rear of Trinity Street car park in Dorchester town centre following multiple reports of fires involving piles of dried leaves on Thursday evening (December 2).

A police officer described the act as 'a mindless disregard of their own and others' safety and the environment.

As a result, police officers will carry out more patrols of the area in a bid to curb the anti-social behaviour.

A spokesman for Dorchester Police said: "More reports last night of further fires been started at the back of Trinity Street car park using piles of dried leaves.

"This behaviour is a mindless disregard of their own and others' safety and the environment.

"Dorset Police are increasing their patrols in these areas and urge members of the public to call in at the time should you see anyone acting in an anti-social manner."
