A STRANDED driver was rescued from flood water by firefighters in a Dorset village.

Fire crews from Bridport and Beaminster Fire Station responded to reports of a vehicle in flood water on Barrowland Lane in Toller Porcorum at 3.12pm on Tuesday, December 7.

Firefighters from Bridport waded through the flood water and pushed the owner and their van out of the water.

The road was blocked by flood water and the police closed the road to stop other motorists from becoming trapped.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "Both Bridport appliances along with Beaminster Fire Station were mobilised to Barrowland Lane, Toller Porcorum after a vehicle became stuck in flood water.

"On arrival, wading crews from Bridport pushed the owner and their van out of the flood water.

"If you see a flood sign or flood water across a road, do not attempt to drive through it. It may add a few extra minutes to your journey but find an alternative, safer route."
