CORFE CASTLE 0

BALTI Sports ended a five-game losing streak in emphatic fashion with a 5-0 thumping of bottom side Corfe Castle at Weymouth College in the Jewson Dorset Premier League.

With Balti again suffering unavailability woes, the scoreline was made all the more remarkable.

Striker Ricky Lane was once more tempted out of retirement and the evergreen marksman proved his quality with two goals.

His first put Balti 1-0 up when he calmly side-footed home from 12 yards before he dispossessed the Castle defence and slotted in for 2-0.

Lane’s clinical brace was followed by a frustrating period for Balti as their final ball let them down before half-time.

Balti’s confidence was brimming in the second half as Josh Grace saw a goal disallowed.

However, a piece of brilliance from teenager Matt Chambers saw the winger nutmeg the covering defender before bending a beautiful finish into the top corner.

Danny Andrews, who played despite being injured, then pinged a sweet left-footed strike into the top corner as Balti went 4-0 up.

And the win was completed when new centre-back Matt Dunlop, signed from Portland Town, volleyed home a loose ball in the box after Corfe failed to deal with a corner.

Speaking to Echosport, Balti boss Marco Nott – who filled in as goalkeeper – said: “It was commanding throughout the whole game.

“I was in goal but I had very little to do. The lads were brilliant.

“We changed the formation, our strengths are attacking and at the moment we’re conceding a lot of goals – we might as well just go for it and see how we get on.

“It paid off and we managed to get five, which is very pleasing. That’s what we used to do. Ricky was back and it was great seeing him back.

“His two finishes to get us on our way were so composed and quality. With that, we gained confidence and played some good football at times.

“We kicked on in the second half to get to 5-0. It was much needed and very enjoyable. It’s been a long time.”

He added: “It was a perfect win, really, and so nice to get a clean sheet.

“It’s not ideal for me to be in goal but I’m more than happy to fill in.

“Clean sheet and five goals – it couldn’t have gone any better.”
