AN area of Dorset has seen the number of Covid cases rise by 125 per cent, latest figures show.

Highcliffe and Walkford saw the number of infections increase from 28 to 63 in the seven days to December 16.

The rate per 100,000 people grew from 372.2 to 837.4.

During the same period, Winton saw a 113 per cent jump in people testing positive for the virus after 59 new cases were confirmed from 52 previously.

This brought from 542.7 up to 1,158.5.

Dorset Echo:

Elsewhere, there was a 69 per cent rise in new cases in Talbot and Branksome Woods with a further 32 people testing positive.

The total number of cases rose to 78 with a rate of 1,121, up from 661.1.

In Jumpers Common and Fairmile, there was a 58 per cent rise in cases after 40 new infections were reported. 

The total number of cases confirmed was 108 after rising from 68, bringing the rate from 817.3 to 1,2981.

Meanwhile, Christchurch town centre recorded 93 cases after 22 new positive tests were returned, giving an increase of 31 per cent.

  The rate changed from 817.3 to 958.1.

Across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, a total of 3,042 cases were recorded in the week to December 16, which was up 22.2 per cent on the previous week.

The Dorset Council area saw cases rise 47 per cent to 2,164.
