TWO further donations have been made to the Dorset Echo Christmas Toy Appeal thanks to a local charity and a fundraising group.

Pilgrim House in Weymouth, which provides a network of services to support the community, has made a generous £100 donation to the Toy Appeal.

Every penny of their donation goes towards purchasing gifts for children in the county who might otherwise go without on Christmas Day.

A spokesperson for Pilgrim House said: “The Trustees of Pilgrim House are proud to donate £100 to the Echo’s Christmas Toy Appeal.

“Well done to the Echo for giving local children beautiful presents this Christmas.”

Fundraising group 'Ladies in Wey-ting' also provided a £100 donation to the appeal thanks to their efforts at the Wyke Christmas market earlier this month.

Susan-Jane Smith said: “As we have done for the last 8 years, our first £100 of takings is always allocated to the Echo’s Toy Appeal, so I will be delighted to take our cheque to the Echo offices this week.

“It is always important to us to be able to help bring a little magic to children that can't always have so much.

“The fayre was an amazing success and it was so special to see so many happy families enjoying this wonderful Christmas event once again.”

Ladies in Wey-ting are also making a £700 donation to the Weldmar Hospice.

Last year the Dorset Echo raised its highest ever amount of £5,432 despite the pandemic, smashing the previous year’s total of £4,933.05, which all goes towards buying toys for those who are less fortunate.

Debbie Hellaby Newsquest group promotions manager said: “Sourcing, collecting and organising the toys for hundreds of children is not an easy task, the toys are usually matched to the age and interest of each child individually.

“We are delighted to accept the support of the Weymouth Rotary Club to facilitate the collection and collation of toys.”

Toy donations made at the collection points located across Dorset were collected on Monday December 6 to be distributed to youngsters.

All the gifts collected will be distributed before Christmas to children who really appreciate them.
