THE A354 Weymouth Way has reopened following an earlier road closure due to a crash - which led to the death of a cyclist.

The major route through Weymouth - between the Manor roundabout and Chafeys roundabout - was shut around noon today after emergency services responded to a road traffic collision.

Also shut was Spa Road both ways between Radipole Lane and Ullswater Crescent.

As previously reported, the collision occurred at around 11.29am today (Friday, December 24) and involved a silver Mitsubishi 4x4 and a cyclist.

Police confirmed a cyclist – a local man aged in his 50s – sustained very serious injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was not physically injured.

The road remained closed until after 4pm while road-side investigations were made, according to police.

Traffic is now flowing free through the route.
