EVENT organisers in Dorchester need to re-assure people that their events are Covid-safe according to town councillors.

Cllr Molly Rennie told a town council meeting that with many venues, including the Municipal Buildings, now opening up again organisers should be thinking about publicising their safety measures.

She said local people were keen to support live events, but needed to be reassured that the venues were safe.

The plea was supported by Cllr Stella Jones who said she would like to see organisers of events in the Municipal Buildings, which includes the Town Hall and Corn Exchange, ensuring that windows and doors were left open to ensure air-flow.

Deputy town clerk Steve Newman said the entire building ought to be safer now following the recent refurbishment which had seen vent cowls brought into use for the first time.

Another councillor, David Leaper, said he would press organisers at the present time to go further with their safety measures – encouraging those attending events to take a lateral flow test and mask wearing in addition to social distancing.

He said he was disappointed that he had not had any response at all to an email he had sent to the organiser of an event he planned to attend at the end of the month to ask what measures they were taking.

The meeting heard that some event organisers were publicising the safety measures they were taking, or the steps they were asking people to take, but others appeared to be doing nothing.
