FOLLOWING Mr Cummings’ trip to Barnard Castle I wrote to our MP, Mr Drax, expressing my concern that if he was not removed from his position the consequences would result in an undermining of the Government’s public health message at the time.
I have to say the I was disappointed in the response I received from Mr Drax.
He was obviously following the party line and as we know Mr Cummings remained in his position for many months.
Since that time there has been a string of incidents, notably Mr Hancock who was not immediately asked to resign or dismissed, although he did eventually go.
The recent revelations about gatherings outside of the rules that the Government had themselves imposed, goes too far.
At the start of the first lockdown Mr Johnson told us we were all in this together and we all had to abide by the rules.
I personally left my family home to live with my elderly parents in London to care for them during lockdown and did not see my own family for the duration of that time.
My husband and daughter, both key workers have continued to work throughout the pandemic, without the luxury of drinks parties in nice gardens.
Many others made greater sacrifices than we did.
With each revelation we the public lose trust in what the Government tells us and asks us to do. We know this pandemic is not over.
If we suddenly get hit with another dangerous variation the Government now has no credibility in demanding of its people how they should behave, and I fear for the consequences.
