Blood donation saves lives. Patients at local hospitals rely on people giving blood.

An NHS Blood and Transplant spokeswoman said: "Our sessions and donor centres are open, and we need people who are fit and healthy to keep donating as normal.

"Blood donation is a reason to do something amazing and help ensure patients continue to get the lifesaving blood they need for emergencies, childbirth, surgery, cancer treatment and to treat blood and medical conditions.

"If you have recently had a vaccination, please wait seven full days from your vaccine before donating on the eighth day. If you had side effects from the vaccine such as headache, temperature, aches and chills, please wait 28 days from your recovery.

"All our venues are covid-secure. Extra safety measures are in place across all blood donation sessions. All donors are triaged with a temperature check on arrival. Hand gels and hand washing facilities are available, donors are spaced apart and staff are doing extra cleaning. Staff and donors wear face coverings."

The rallies will be held between 12:30pm - 3:30pm and then again at 4:30pm to 7:30pm
