HAMWORTHY UNITED RES 0

DORCHESTER Sports made it 13 wins in a row with a resounding 6-0 win over a youthful Hamworthy United Reserves at the Avenue Stadium.

It was the away side who should have gone ahead after only a minute of this Jewson Dorset Premier League clash.

Jack Steele played the Hamworthy front man through one-on-one with a wayward backpass but keeper Nick Hutchings was not going to be beaten.

Sports never really looked back after this, mounting a wave of attacks, and had the chance to go ahead when Charlie Gosney was bundled down in the box and Jamie Symes stepped up to convert from the spot.

In-form striker Alex Godfrey was now linking up well with his midfield and added two goals before half-time to give Sports a comfortable lead.

Sports piled on the pressure in the second half, Godfrey completing his hat-trick for 4-0 and then wobbling the bar from distance.

Gosney then slid in to finish a Louis Hankin cross to make it 5-0 and then the pass of the game from Nick Voss put Gosney clean through to complete his brace and the scoring.

Speaking to Echosport, home boss Ashley James said: “It was a very good performance from start to finish.

“Just a little wobble after a minute when Jack played a ball back for Nick and it didn’t quite reach him, Nick’s made a great save.

“From then on we stamped our authority and it was a complete performance. We never looked in any danger.

“We controlled the game from start to finish.”

Sports remain in third, six points adrift of promotion rivals Ham Rec.

He added: “Looking at the league table, the goal difference could be vital. It’s important we keep scoring goals.

“The more goals we score, the more confidence we get. It’s nice we’re sharing them about as well. I couldn’t be happier at the moment.”

On Godfrey, James added: “He loves playing and if he gets a sight of goal he’s going to score, simple as that.

“He’s one of the best finishers I’ve seen locally. He’s enjoying his football and he’s scoring goals for fun. Hopefully it continues. He’s on 20 now and he’ll be looking to kick on and score in these important games that are coming up.”

Sports visit rivals Merley on Saturday (2pm).
