DORCHESTER Town manager Glenn Howes stressed opponents Chesham United will be “full of pedigree” in their clash at the Avenue Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Howes leads the Magpies into their latest Pitching In Southern League Premier South contest bidding to end a run of four straight league defeats.

Dorchester last won in early December with a 3-1 success over Harrow, but Howes is under no illusion as to the size of the Magpies’ task against the promotion-chasing Generals.

He told Echosport: “It’s this league, you listen to every manager’s interview, the quotes from all of us, and everybody is saying the same.

“I know everybody can say there’s no game, but the league is exceptionally strong and the margins are so fine.

“You look at Chesham how well they’re going, they put out a strong side against Hungerford in the week, beat Hayes & Yeading so they’re full of pedigree.

They’re really well organised and they’ve got expectations and aspirations of promotion this year and rightly so.

“It’s not too dissimilar to what we’ve been facing of late with the Tauntons and Poole Towns. It’s going to be another tough fixture, for sure.”

He added: “Every game brings different challenges and one thing we’re trying to find out is the psychology of our group and Dorchester Town Football Club as a whole.

“When you play against these bigger sides, sometimes there’s nothing really expected of you, so you can almost describe it as a free hit.

“We have gone toe-to-toe with these sides, so we know the quality is there. It’s finding out how we can turn the corner and take the next step in terms of getting some points against these sides.

“Training’s been good, morale’s been good, the players are fully focused and have asked really good questions. We’ve analysed it nice and constructively amongst the group.

“We feel we’re getting closer to finding a way of turning these draws into wins and defeats into draws, which can hopefully help us climb the table.”

Howes revealed experienced centre-half Thiago Caze da Silva will see a specialist for a knee problem.

“We’re hoping to have Thiago in and around us again early next week,” Howes said.

“He has seen a consultant because it’s a bit of a complicated one for his knee in the swelling and where it is in and around his cartilage.

“We’re hoping to have him in training to see how it reacts because he’s been a great miss, not just on the pitch but in the dressing room – he’s a positive character.”
