TONIGHT will be 'possibly the coldest night of the season', according to a weather enthusiast.

The public have been advised to 'wear your thermals if you’re heading out tonight', as tonight could potentially be the coldest night so far this winter.

In a post on social media, weather enthusiast Dorset Snow said: "Potentially the coldest night of the season coming up, with temperatures dropping between -2C to -4C quite widely. -6 or even -7C is possible in any frost hollows. Brief northerly winds will be responsible. I am expecting to record my fourth air frost of the month tonight."

This comes as a Dorset Council spokesperson, said: "Roads are set to get extremely cold overnight, with some surface temperatures dropping to -5°C.

"Our gritting crews will be heading out at 5pm this evening & 3am tomorrow morning.

"Please drive with care if travelling overnight and during your morning commute. It will take a long time for these road temperatures to recover throughout the morning."

BCP Council also warned the public to be aware of gritters: "Gritters out tonight, road surface temperatures are forecast to fall below zero on some routes tonight.

Our gritters will be going out this evening to treat the roads. Please take caution whilst driving."

According to the Met Office, temperatures will reach zero degrees tonight, dropping further to -1 between 5am and 9am tomorrow morning.
