PORTLAND Town chairman Andy Barber has stepped down as the islander embrace change at the top.

Barber, a founding member of a club with this season celebrates its 15th year, hands over the reins to Liam Sharp.

Town are looking to reinvigorate the club's fortunes, with a nod towards a fresh energy and new ideas thought to be behind the move.

Town have three sides in the Dorset League and, while the first team is third in Division One, the reserve and third teams are languishing in bottom and seventh of Divisions Four and Five respectively.

Explaining the decision to appoint Sharp, Barber also cited health issues.

"I believe a younger more energetic man in charge will benefit the club," he said.

"Since my stroke in 2020 I’ve not been able to be as present as I’ve wanted and have been in the past."

Sharp takes charge immediately with Barber joining a newly-formed club committee with brother Paul Barber joining alongside a several soon-to-be announced members.
