A ROAD will be closed in both ways for nearly two weeks to allow for emergency repairs - following a crash yesterday.

A portion of the A30 in Sherborne will be closed until February 24 from B3148 Marston Road to Acreman Street to allow for the repairs of an ‘unstable wall’ following a crash.

Property engineers from Dorset Council are surveying the wall to assess how it can best be propped and supported.

A Dorset Council spokesman said: "Due to the amount of heavy and continuous traffic moving past the damaged wall, and the risk of further collapse, the road has been closed."

A signposted diversion route is in place - the official route has to be on the same classification of road as the one closed. This is so that the route is suitable for all sizes of vehicles.

The route is signposted via A30 - A352 - A3030 - A357 - A30.

"Local drivers may wish to choose a shorter, alternative route, however, please ensure it is suitable for your vehicle," the spokesman added.

The closure will remain in place until the wall can be supported and made safe.
