A CHARITY that has trained trauma doctors and paramedics patrol UK roads and provide critical care to fallen motorcyclists will receive a £15,000 boost to help meet its operational costs for the next three years.

DocBike, who is run entirely by volunteers and was founded in Dorset, engage with motorcyclists to raise awareness of how they can ‘upskill their ride’ and keep other injured motorcyclists alive until emergency services arrive, by attending a free course called BikerDown.

They have announced a three-year partnership with Wesleyan Financial Services, who provide specialist financial advice and solutions for doctors, dentists and teachers.

The partnership which was formed after the specialist financial services mutual was inspired by the charity’s life-saving work – which urged them to provide financial support with a grant from its foundation.

Dr Ian Mew, Co-Founder and Trustee of DocBike, spends half his time working at Dorset County Hospital and the other half with Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. He said: “As a very happy customer of Wesleyan for over 20 years, I’ve been delighted with their proactive stance in finding ways to help our charity.

“I’m absolutely bowled over by the support from their Foundation, which will make a huge difference to the DocBike charity. I’m sure that this is just the start of a wonderful relationship between us, which will help to save lives into the future.”

DocBike relies on the generosity of the public as it receives no direct funding from the government. The grant from the Wesleyan Foundation will help to fund their operational costs for the next three years – which will allow the charity’s income to be directed towards helping bikers and preventing motorcycle collisions.

Nathan Wallis, Chief of Staff at Wesleyan, said: “As a mutual we are passionate about supporting the charities and community groups that matter most to our members and customers. Especially those that have the potential to save lives and build a safer future for us all.

“I was inspired by Ian’s vision for the future of DocBike and was delighted the Foundation is able to support the running of the charity for the next three years.”
