A NEW art gallery has opened in Bridport.

Dorset artist Howard Flanagan has opened the doors to Art Unlimited at 15 South Street, a welcome addition to Bridport’s vibrant artistic scene.

Art Unlimited will focus on a range of genres of art and will display works from local and national artists as well as some from the USA, Germany and New Zealand, many who do not exhibit work elsewhere in UK. There will be works in both 2D and 3D formats and material from emerging artists to showcase their work to the public, often for the first time.

Art Unlimited will be divided into two – the first a retail section where selected works will be displayed and sold and the second a gallery that will form an exhibition space where either a single artist, or group of artists can show their work for a limited period.

The gallery will also include work from Mr Flanagan, who has become known for his large finely detailed paintings. In 2017 he was a finalist for The Sunday Time Watercolourist of the Year. He has had one man shows in Liverpool and at The Malthouse and Courtyard Galleries in Lyme Regis which have earned him membership of the International Guild of Realism.

For Mr Flanagan, Art Unlimited is all about bringing this exciting project to reality: “I have had a long held ambition to open my own gallery and have been planning this for the last three years," he said.

"Now as we emerge from the dark days of Covid lockdowns, the time feels right to launch this new venture."

He added: “I really want to work closely with the local community to ensure as many people as possible can engage with the many forms of art.

"I hope it will inspire people to think about art and the beauty of nature and inspire their own creativity.”
