DORCHESTER welcome league leaders Devizes to Surcouf Park for their Tribute Southern Counties South clash tomorrow (2.30pm).

With the second of its vice-president’s lunches and three senior men’s games this weekend, Dorchester are moving towards the end of their 150th season ready to party in style.

Josh Ovey has a number of key regular players unavailable to him, but that gives opportunities to those who step back into the squad plus a debut to Owen Mitchell at full-back.

Ovey himself moves from the front row to back row to cover but promotes Scott Clarke to the starting hooker role.

Adam Makepeace returns from missing a game and Callum King swaps positions with George Foot to start at fly-half with Foot at centre. Deklyn Bane continues his time with the squad along with Alex Sharp on the bench.

Dorchester played one their best games of the season in the reverse fixture back in November, narrowly losing 25-19. They will be keen to perform well in front of a large crowd tomorrow while hoping to upset the league’s top dogs.

In Tribute Dorset & Wilts One South, Weymouth & Portland host Swanage & Wareham looking to consolidate third place.

Seahorses’ coach Rich Bament told Echosport: “I think we should be OK.

“When we went up there they had their Fijians and they were very strong. We changed the way we played in the second half and we overhauled the deficit.

“You can’t be loose against a team like Swanage if they’ve got those players in, because they’re wonderful to watch in full flight.”

Weymouth scrum-half Craig Barter is expected to be out for the season but Hamish Jeffcott (head) should play.

Puddletown host Bournemouth Thirds as they look to reclaim fourth place from East Dorset Dockers.

Meanwhile, in the division below, Dorchester A XV travel to Oakmeadians Seconds in a fifth versus sixth match-up. Dorchester take a strong squad with Matt Fry back leading from the front after his recent injury.

The experienced Dave Cottell comes into the front row as hooker alongside Liam Stocke and Tom Lovell, while Ed Martin steps in at number eight with Rob Parker continuing his fine spell at fly-half.

This evening will see Tony O’Connell lead his band of intrepid Gladiators onto the field against a Weymouth & Portland second team in their Dorset & Wilts Matrix fixture (7.30pm).

Sunday sees just one junior fixture at home with the under-13s locking horns with Lytchett Minster at 10.45am.
