YOUNG ADAM Greaves, 11, wants another youngster to sample and enjoy the sporting chance he was given.

The sports-mad Southwell Primary School pupil has a passion for sailing since he took part in the Sail for A Fiver Scheme at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy last May.

He was one of more than 500 pupils from around the area that took part in the event that was sponsored by the Chesil Partnership and Henry Lloyd Weymouth Regatta.

Adam said: "It was the most exciting thing that I have ever done and although I landed in the water a few times, I was determined to carry on and I couldn't get back in the boat quickly enough."

A trophy was awarded to one pupil from each of the participating schools and Adam was thrilled to be chosen to receive this and it is now his most prized possession.

He was even more thrilled when he was called into school head teacher Stuart McLeod's office last October to be told that out of the hundreds of youngsters who took part in Sail for a Fiver, he was one of the two to be offered sponsorship of £265 to enable them to take part in a five-day course at the Sailing Academy to gain RYA Level I and 2 sailing qualifications.

Adam said: "I realise that this is an opportunity that I wouldn't have without the funding of the Chesil Partnership and Henry Lloyd Weymouth Regatta and I am very grateful to both."

It is for this reason that he wishes to participate in the Sport Relief Mile and gain sponsorship in order that he can help to give someone else the opportunity.

He can hardly wait to go on the five-day course which will be held during the Easter holidays and Adam is already talking about getting a little job when he is 13 years old so that he can finance himself to 'carry on sailing'.

His parents Alan and Mandy Greaves are very proud that of his own initiative Adam wants to take part in the Sport Relief event which will be held at Weymouth College in March.

Adam is now looking for sponsorship for his one-mile run and he said: "I will be grateful for even the smallest amount as it will all add up to helping a young person somewhere."
