WEYMOUTH Town Council has announced the 14 charities that will light up the Jubilee Clock for part of this year – with decisions still to be made on the rest of the year.

After lighting up the clock throughout 2021, the council will again be lighting up the clock face of the iconic landmark to raise awareness for good causes.

After considering nominations from the public, the following charities have been chosen by a panel of councillors: Julian House March 11- 14; MYTIME Young Carers March 16; Marie Curie March 23; Young Epilepsy/Epilepsy Action March 26; Autism Acceptance Week March 28-April 3; Weymouth Town Charities April 8; Weymouth and Portland Scouts April 22- 25; RNLI May Day Campaign May 1; Dorset Mind/Mental Health Week May 9-15; Foggys May 12; Queen’s Platinum Jubilee June 2- 5; Weymouth Armed Forces & Veterans Celebrations June 17- 20.

The clock has already lit up for National Apprenticeship Week (Feb 7- 13) and Weymouth Street Pastors (February 25-28).

Mayor of Weymouth Colin Huckle said: “We’re delighted to once again be raising awareness for charities and good causes using this well-known landmark. The Jubilee Clock is one of Weymouth’s most recognisable sights and a proud symbol of Weymouth’s heritage.

“I’m very pleased that we received such a diverse range of nominations from the public and that these worthy causes will now be highlighted by us. Photos of the clock face being lit up in its various colours will be shared on Weymouth Town Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages.”

The council will also continue to light the clock in blue and yellow to show solidarity with Ukraine where possible.

The panel of councillors, which include Cllr Huckle, Cllr Ann Weaving and Cllr Tia Roos, review and agree the nominations for the lighting of the Jubilee Clock for 2022.

They will meet again in June to discuss and confirm the lighting schedule for July to December 2022.
