A POPULAR Weymouth beach café has been given planning consent for a larger kiosk.
Café Oasis at Overcombe Corner say the replacement kiosk, with a double hatch, will allow the business to allow more streamlined ordering and collection and respond better to increased customer demand for take-away drinks and snacks.
The new kiosk, 6.2 by 3.2 metres will face towards the beach and will be finished in white panels with the west side having a beach-style mural. The existing white painted timber kiosk is 2.1 by 2.75m which was approved in 2009 with a condition that it be removed each September and not be reinstated until Easter.
Said a planning officer report: “It is not clear whether this condition was complied with, but it is accepted that the current proposal for determination would be permanent without the requirement for removal.”
The proposed opening hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm, weekends and bank holidays 8am to 8pm.
Weymouth town council raised no objection to the change when consulted by Dorset Council.
Rights of Way officers also raised no objection but said that with the proposed works close to a public footpath the full width of the path has to remain open and available at all times.
