RESIDENTS are invited to an online meeting tonight about the campaign against a proposed Portland waste incinerator.

The event is being hosted by COP26 Coalition Dorset Hub and will feature speakers from elsewhere in the UK, who will "will share their experiences of research on incinerators and the forms of protest that most effectively challenge them."

The event - which is titled, 'Incinerators - Danger to public health', is being held on Zoom at 7.30pm today (Tuesday March 22).

Guest speakers include Georgia Elliott-Smith from Stop the Edmonton Incinerator campaign group, and Raj Perera of Stop the Edmonton Incinerator – COP 26 Coalition.

Local campaigner Paula Klaentschi of Stop Portland Waste Incinerator group is also on the roster. All are welcome to attend, organisers say.

A spokesperson for COP26 Coalition - Dorset Hub said, "In heavily populated urban areas and now on the Dorset World Heritage Coast there are plans to build and expand waste incinerators.

"These projects are a danger to public health and should be halted. In Dorset the council should respond by rejecting proposals for a new plant on Portland. There is NO safe level of particulate exposure - and there is no debate about the fact that long-term exposure to very small particles is bad for human health.”
