A musical fundraiser put together in just a week to raise money for the people of Ukraine generated £2,100 for UNICEF.

The evening at the Ocean Room in Weymouth Pavilion was organised by Weymouth boogie woogie pianist Ben Waters and featured a line-up of musicians keen to volunteer their services after seeing the heart-breaking scenes in Ukraine.

Ben said: "The atmosphere on the evening was incredible, people were cheering and screaming and really enjoying themselves."

It was moving to see some Ukrainian people in the audience, Ben said, who were streaming the music to people back home in Ukraine.

"Some people from Ukraine were there who are friends of friends and they were holding up their phones and streaming it people who were out there fighting.

"It was very moving and a very special evening.

"So many people volunteered to be involved and wanted to help. We could have had 30 musicians involved.

"I was born in Weymouth and to do something like this in my hometown for such an important cause was very special.

"I really wanted to do something to help.

"The Ocean Room also holds a special place in my heart because my mum and dad met there."

More than 100 tickets were sold on the evening and people donated hundreds of pounds on the evening.

Weymouth Pavilion donated the Ocean Room and security free of charge.

Bands performed a set of around 40 minutes on the evening, with Billy Boy Miskimmin, Danny Adams and Hustle taking to the stage after the Ben Waters Band.
