THOUSANDS of people attended a car show on Portland with plans under way for more events.

On Sunday, April 10, car cleaning products company Ace Detailing, which is based in Upwey, hosted its inaugural car show at Frontline Café & Bar in Victoria Park on Portland.

Organiser Ashley Wild said around 3,000 turned up in the day and has hailed the event a huge success with plans in the pipeline for more shows.

“The car meet was absolutely fantastic. We were only expecting 400 or so people and we had some amazing cars turn up on the day, including Audi R8s, Ferraris, Mercedes AMGs, modified classics, hot rods and the fire brigade with one fire engine, which was great for the kids," said Mr Wild.

“We even had a car which was one of two ever made, a Nissan GT-R Nismo tuning factory edition.

“Everyone was really sensible, we had no problems. Everyone cleaned up after themselves, I came down the next day to clear up anything that may have been left but there was nothing there.”

The event was the launch event for Ace Detailing, a company started in lockdown by Weymouth car enthusiasts to produce cleaning products for their vehicles, and went down well with visitors.

Mr Wild is hoping to change the reputation of the car community in Dorset and says events like this go a 'long way' in doing so because everyone was ‘well behaved’.

The event was organised with the correct permission and liaising with the relevant authorities.

He continued: “The area does not have a good reputation with car meets and we are trying to change by people being responsible and respectful.

“We are still working out how many cars we had but we had one person come from Swindon in a Mclaren 650S and visitors came from as far as Didcot, Bristol and Minehead, which helps with tourism.

“The comments have been positive and generally that it was nice to see a variety of cars and not just one category like supercars, sports cars or modified classics.

“We have got plans for more events. We want to have a stage and music, as well as bringing in more cars.”
