Colour and creativity will be promoted by local artists displaying work as part of Dorset Art Weeks.

Some 50 artists from the community arts group - made up of Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester artists - will be taking part in the art extravaganza, which will be held across the county from May 14 to 29.

They will be exhibiting their work through multi-artist group exhibitions at the Nothe Fort in Weymouth and Weymouth Old Town Hall, with several members opening up their gardens and studios.

A grant from Weymouth Town Council has enabled Artwey to put on the event at the fort.

Nothe Fort chairman James Farquharson said: “We are delighted that Artwey has chosen Nothe Fort as one of their venues for Dorset Art Weeks exhibition.

"The exhibition looks fantastic in the marquee in our parade ground, and we love the buzz that Artwey brings to the fort."

Weymouth Old Town Hall will be hosting another group of talented Artwey artists with a mix of high quality painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media and fine art textiles; covering a diverse variety of subject matter such as: contemporary landscapes and seascapes, alongside studies of nature and also more abstract work in the newly renovated, historic building.

Artists will be on site at both locations throughout the opening times and will be happy to talk to visitors about their work. Art lovers will be able to see artists in their natural habitat, behind an easel, creating with glass, ceramics, stone, silver, paper and beeswax.

Visitors and locals alike will be able to view and purchase original, high-quality, affordable art.

Artwey CIC is going from strength to strength. With an influx of new members since the end of lockdown, the community arts group currently has more than 85 artists.
