Another cruise ship has arrived at Portland Port today.

The Celebrity Apex is currently on a 14-day one-way cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Amsterdam.

It will be in Portland until 8pm, when it will leave for Le Havre in France.

The 2,910-passenger cruise ship is the property of American liner Celebrity Cruises, which comes under the Royal Caribbean Cruises group.

As reported it is one of a record breaking 62 cruise ships expected to come to Portland this year as the industry bounces back from the pandemic.

The cruise season, which started on April 21 with the Hanseatic Inspiration making its maiden call to the port, will run through to November 14 with a visit by the AIDAvita.

Out of the 62 ships coming to the island this season, 11 are inaugural visits and require the traditional exchange of the plaques between the ship’s captain and the port representative.

In addition to the inaugural calls 2022 will also see Portland Port welcome many 'old friends'.

One of the port's returning visitors will be the Disney Magic on September 12.

It is the company's second edge-class cruise ship and was constructed in 2018 in at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France in 2018 following her sister ship Celebrity Edge.

Like her sister ship, the Celebrity Apex is equipped with a distinctive ‘Magic Carpet,’ an orange cantilevered platform suspended along the starboard side of the ship that can move vertically between the top and bottom decks, designed to facilitate a more seamless tender service.

The ship is designed to have a ‘parabolic ultrabow’, where the bow rises vertically towards the decks to provide additional sheathing for its bow and house propellers to reduce drag and increase fuel efficiency.

Other features include an ‘infinite veranda’ balcony stateroom that integrate its balcony patio into its cabin structure, and an outdoor garden on the top deck.
