A MAN is suspected of stealing a ‘very full bag’ of baby food from a store after being caught trying to sell the items outside a licensed premises

The male was seen leaving a store on St Thomas Street, Weymouth, acting suspiciously, and carrying what the police have described as a ‘very full bag for life’.

He was stopped a short time later when it is believed he was trying to sell the items from the bag to another male outside a licensed premises.

A stop and search of the male was carried out, which led to the police discovering the large amount of suspected stolen baby food.

Officers will now make enquiries with the store – with the male being reported to Court once the investigation is complete.

The discovery was made whilst officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team were on patrol in Weymouth town centre in the afternoon of Wednesday, May 11.

Whilst on patrol, a wanted man was also spotted and arrested for failing to appear at Court earlier in the month.

A spokesperson from Weymouth & Portland Police said: “Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted uniformed and non-uniformed foot patrol in Weymouth town centre this afternoon to target shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.

“After a few minutes of us being in the town, a wanted male was sighted and arrested a short time later for failing to appear at Court earlier this month. He remains in police custody before Court tomorrow.

“We also spotted a male exiting a store on St Thomas Street, actg suspiciously and carrying a very full bag for life! This male was stopped by officers a short time later, where he appeared to be trying to sell items from the bag to a male outside a licensed premises just outside the town centre.

“Officers intervened and a stop search of the male was conducted. A large amount of suspected stolen baby food items were located on the search. Officers will be making follow up enquires with the store and the male will be reported to Court once the investigation is completed. We will also be following this up with our Licensing Team.”
