A MAN has been fined for throwing a bottle towards a football pitch and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour on the day of a local derby.
Alex Ward, of Clovens Road, Portland, was charged with one count of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and one count of throwing an item onto a football playing area.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced at Weymouth Magistrates Court yesterday.
The charges are an in relation to an incident at Bob Lucas Stadium in Weymouth on April 18 this year on the day of the Weymouth v Yeovil Town FC game.
Ward received a £375 fine and must pay a £38 victim surcharge and £85 towards court costs.
A football banning order was not imposed because of Ward's good character.
