POLICE are looking to speak to the victim of an unreported crime after a man was captured on video smashing the window of a vehicle and allegedly stealing an item from inside.

Officers say the alleged theft took place on Monday, March 9, on Ranelagh Road in Weymouth.

Video footage captured shows a man, who police say is known to them, smash the driver's side window of a vehicle and appear to steal an item form inside.

However, the vehicle, which was parked on the junction of Stanley Street, could not be identified and officers say that the alleged crime has not been reported.

A spokesman for Weymouth & Portland Police said: "Officers are investigating a theft from a motor vehicle which occurred on Ranelagh Road, Weymouth at approximately 07:50hrs on Monday, March 9.

"A known male has been captured on video footage smashing the drivers side window of a vehicle and appears to steal an item before running off. Unfortunately the registration of the vehicle wasn’t captured, we don’t know who’s vehicle it was and nothing was reported to us.

"The vehicle was parked directly opposite Simon’s Boutique on the junction of Stanley Street, all we can say is that it was a white vehicle but can’t be sure of make or model. If this is your vehicle or you know who’s it is likely to be please contact us so that we can make contact with the victim and pursue the case further against the male in question."
