I ENTIRELY agree with Steve Elsworth’s views (Letters 20 May) on Dorset Council’s desire to reduce the number of councillors on the Weymouth Town Council.
Weymouth is the largest urban area within the Dorset Council area and has to be adequately represented locally.
The formation of the Dorset Council in 2019 was to many people an undemocratic act anyway.
None of us had any say when Weymouth and Portland Council and other Dorset District Councils were swept away and the Dorset Council imposed upon us. I am not sure there is any evidence that the present set-up in Dorchester is an improvement democratically or economically.
