I WROTE previously on the 20 of April regarding reviewing the start date for dogs on our beautiful beach being revised to Good Friday for the safety of families with small children.

The purpose was to ensure that our beach remains the favourite family beach in Dorset.

With the intention of exploring more ideas to promote Weymouth as a tourist destination I believe that we need to adapt to meet the needs of both holidaymakers and residents. The removal of the tram tracks and the extension of outside seating around the harbour is an excellent example.

A further thought is to introduce a 20 mph speed limit along The Esplanade and to introduce cycle lanes, to promote cycling along a very flat stretch of road which offers fantastic sea views and links to our other cycle trails.

The benefits to the environment and the health of the cyclists together with the opportunities for families to ride in safety would be immense.

With staycation here to stay, due to both Covid and families reduced budgets, we need to make our town as attractive as possible to promote our local businesses which have suffered two difficult years.

A further thought is to introduce measures to limit the holiday traffic that comes into the town centre seeking parking spaces that simply do not exist.

Perhaps by signage stating the number of spare parking spaces and directing traffic to alternative parking which I agree is in short supply.
