Proud youngsters will see colourful portraits they created of their pets go on display in a vet's consult rooms.

Children at Holy Trinity Primary School in Weymouth were excited to be invited to create art work of their pets in a competition organised by Dave Cumber Vets.

The practice asked the children to create a portrait of their pet with the winning entries being made into artwork for display in the consult rooms.

Furry, feathery and scaly companions were all immortalised in portraits and staff at Dave Cumber were 'blown away' by the children's efforts.

Samantha Quartermaine, RVN (Clinical Lead Nurse) visited the school and presented prizes to the winners.

She said: "We were blown away with the number of pupils that entered from Holy Trinity and the standard of their art work. The whole team at Dave Cumber Vets really enjoyed looking through all the drawings. The first place winner's pictures will be framed and displayed. We look forward to having the 12 finalists visit the practice to have a look behind the scenes."

The schools' art subject leader Laura Houlston said pupils loved being able to create art about their much-loved pets.

"The school has really relished the opportunity to create artwork for a local veterinary practice and we are sure that all who visit the practice in the future will enjoy seeing the children's art proudly displayed. Many thanks to Dave Cumber Vets and their team for organising the competition and supplying such fantastic prizes for both pets and their owners," she said.

Clinical Lead Vet, Amy Bowen MRCVS said: "Our team very much enjoyed looking at the beautiful drawings the children did - it certainly cheered me up! It is clear the children love their furry, feathery and scaly companions very much and we will be honoured to display the winners for the wider Weymouth community to see.”
