A THEATRICAL group are gearing up to present their first show at Weymouth Pavilion in two years after intense but productive rehearsals.
Wessex Musical Theatre will be celebrating 100 years since their first performance at Weymouth Pavilion with a showcase that will take the audience down memory lane by going through their 100-year history - supported with live music from their pit orchestra.
Formally known as the Weymouth Operatic Society, the group are set to hit the stage during the week of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations with the show featuring some of the Queen’s favourite musicals – ‘Oklahoma’ and ‘Annie Get Your Gun’.

Stella Brading, chairman of the Wessex Musical Theatre, said: “Celebrating 100 years for an amateur theatre company is quite an achievement in today's world, and with the last two years of not being able to rehearse together, let alone stage a main show at Weymouth Pavilion, our members have pulled out all the stops to put on a fabulous show full of well-known musical theatre songs.
“Rehearsals have been intense and productive, and our show is going to be a fantastic showcase of the talent we have in our company. Diversely packed with songs from many different shows, there will be so much for all the family to enjoy.
“To visit a theatre and see live performances with professional musicians and for such a reasonable ticket price, should encourage the public to come along and support us in our 100th year of entertaining Weymouth and the surrounding areas.”

A spokesperson for the Wessex Musical Theatre added: “There is no need to travel to the West End when Weymouth has such exceptional talent performing on your doorstep.
“WMT is older than the Queen. And is certainly the oldest theatre company in this area. The society is proud to be performing during the week of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and a night at the theatre is an inexpensive way to celebrate together such a momentous milestone for both Queen and company.”
Their next show ‘A Night at the Musicals – 100 Years that WOS WMT’ will show between Wednesday June 1 and Sunday, June 5. More information can be found on their Facebook page ‘Wessex Musical Theatre’.
