IT WAS a right royal celebration as communities came together to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

In Dorchester people took to the streets and parks to enjoy the festivities.

Brewery Square held an afternoon of live music, British delicacies, face painting, crafts and performances to entertain everyone celebrating the Queen’s 70-year reign.

Meanwhile, with gazebos pitched up and decked in British flags, the Borough Gardens hosted the Big Jubilee Screening all day, which saw the gardens full of royal joy, picnics and people in their best red, white and blue attire.

Other Dorchester events included at Fordington Green, who hosted a mid-morning brunch with Bean on the Green before St George’s Church threw a Jubilee Street Party and a thanksgiving service, which also saw locals embrace the red, white, blue royal theme.

The party atmosphere continued into the final day of the Jubilee celebrations on Sunday with Brewery Square hosting their BIG Lunch which invited people to either bring something nice to eat or purchase takeaway from one of their restaurants and take a seat from midday.

The festivities continued into the afternoon with the showing of the Platinum Pageant, a variety of stalls to browse, a crown making competition, scones, ice cream and a photo both.

Portland also offered a whole host of events over the Jubilee weekend. Portland Museum had the kids covered with a children’s fun day, Easton Methodist Church celebrated with live music and cream teas, the Jolly Boys performed at the Punch Bowl, and the Islanders Club hosted a family fun day. There were also street parties and family events.

Meanwhile in the west of the county there were street parties galore including a big event in Beaminster.

Down at the coast there were celebrations at Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock. The Jubilee party on Friday hosted by the café included music from the Decadettes plus guitarist Jake Humphries.

And it was a great day, me hearties, as Pirates Day returned to West Bay.

The event - last held in 2019 - made a great comeback after Covid with fun activities for all the family with games, music and prizes.

It is organised by volunteers from the West Bay Days group and this year coincided with celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
