A free art exhibition focused on environmental issues will be displayed to the public this summer.

Posters, pledges and other artwork created by students at Weymouth College will be set up in the Alice Ellen Cooper Dean Community Space at Dorset Museum in Dorchester as part of the 'Plastics are not Fantastic' exhibit.

It will be available to view from Monday, June 20 until Friday, September 16.

The project intends to raise awareness of the ongoing climate emergency with the work formed as part of a competition at the college to coincide with the 2021 COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow.

Peter Vowles, student liaison officer at Weymouth College, said: “The climate change poster competition was part of the college’s Environment Week, held during the second week of the COP Conference in November. We had over 64 entries from students right across the college and it was very difficult to pick an outright winner.

“The judging panel were very drawn to the winning entry ‘You are the voice of the Ocean,’ a group piece by students on the Next Steps Independent Living course.

“It makes a strong point, makes you aware of the destruction to the sea creatures but it also makes you smile.”

The artwork form part of the Create and Collect project, a series of community engagement activities with young people, led by the four partner museums of the Wessex Museums Partnership.

The winning poster can be seen on display alongside a selection of posters and artwork.
