The Dorset Echo has teamed up with The Nest to launch an appeal to source donations of essential toiletries and cleaning products.
All donations will be distributed via The Nest for free to customers who are facing challenging times.
The Nest, Littlemoor and The Nest Weymouth are community shops that provide affordable shopping for individuals who are struggling financially.
Individuals who would like to use The Nest facilities simply have to apply for a membership; the application process includes a financial check, and those on income based benefits automatically qualify.
Once they are members customers of The Nest can purchase 10 items for £3.50 or 15 items for £5; which the Nest say is roughly a quarter the price of a shop at Aldi.
Since last year The Nest says that they have seen an increase in the number of people signing on to use their service because of the cost of living crisis.
Furthermore, they say that people are being forced to cut back, and are being forced to budget out some essentials.
Toiletries and cleaning products are expensive and individuals have been known to forfeit these items in favor of purchasing food for their families.
We want to ensure that these essentials are readily available to customers of the Nest and that no families are having to choose between purchasing toiletries & cleaning products or feeding their family.
Suggested donations include shower gel, toothpaste & brushes, shampoo & conditioner, laundry powder, fabric conditioner, multi-surface cleaner, washing-up liquid.
Neil Hardisty director at The Nest said: "People on limited income are having to pick and choose between essentials, mainly food, and that means they often can't afford toiletries and cleaning items.
"At The Nest food has always been our priority, but being able to offer free toiletries on our shelves would be a big help to the people using our service.
"Personal hygiene is essential, and we are grateful to all those who are organising this appeal."
Collection points are located at Morrisons in Weymouth; Wilkinsons in Weymouth and Asda in Weymouth.
