STAFF and residents of a Dorset care home were treated to a virtual live talk at Cliveden.

The famous National Trust site in Buckinghamshire invited the staff and residents from Barchester’s Trinity Manor care home in Sherborne to go on a virtual tour and hear a talk.

The illustrated talk given by volunteers gave residents a closer look at Nancy Astor, the first female MP and one of the most famous women to live at Cliveden.

Jennifer, a volunteer from the National Trust's Talks Service, said: “It was so lovely to share Nancy’s stories with the residents from Barchester and talk about the impact she had, not only on Cliveden but on all our lives - as the first female MP in this country, she was an absolute trailblazer.”

The talk traced her fascinating history from birth in America, through her early life, her move to England with marriage to Waldorf Astor, her life at Cliveden and her subsequent career as wife and working mother in a turbulent political career from 1919 to 1945.

Laura McAllister, Trinity Manor’s Activities Co-ordinator, said: “We are so grateful to the volunteers from the National Trust Talks Service for taking the time to share this slice of history with us, it has been absolutely fascinating – our residents really enjoyed hearing all about Nancy Astor and her time at Cliveden, it really has been a wonderful way for our residents to spend an afternoon.”
