A LARGE ship has been moored in Weymouth Bay for several days.

Athina Carras has anchored just off the coast of Weymouth.

The vessel, which was built in 2012 and is classed as an bulk carrier, arrived on Saturday (June 18) in Weymouth Bay at 6.10pm.

A bulk carrier or bulker is a merchant ship specially designed to transport unpackaged bulk cargo, such as grains, coal, ore, steel coils, and cement, in its cargo holds.

The ship is currently sailing under the flag of Greece.

Prior to its arrival on the south Dorset coastline, the tanker was last recorded as being moored at Teesport, on Thursday (June 17) before departing at 8.39am.

The vessel is 32 metres wide and 229 metres long.

It is not known the ship's next destination or how long it will be moored in Weymouth Bay.
