After witnessing a fabulous, emotional and very poignant Armed Forces parade in Weymouth, I was very disappointed to see that cars were driving along the Esplanade during the ceremony.
The whole event was very well organised – and emotional – and the ceremony broadcast via speakers to allow spectators to join in with prayers and tributes, so how were cars allowed to drive along a road between 11am and 11.30am when there were signs stating that the road was closed from 10am?
There were no marshals policing this. This happened during several prayers, a minute’s silence and the start of the parade, which, in my opinion was both distracting and very disrespectful.
The only reason that this came to a halt was due to a spectator eventually stopping cars and asking them to turn around in order to avoid oncoming troops who were marching as part of the parade.
Come on Weymouth, this should not have happened when so many came to pay their respects.
