A department store has donated 50 duvets for Ukrainian families settling in Dorset.

Goulds Stores, which has shops in Dorchester and a garden centre in Weymouth, delivered £3,250 worth of duvets to the Weymouth for Ukraine Group.

The group's newly opened warehouse on the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth redistributes donations to families from war-torn Ukraine moving into the Dorset area.

Ukrainian families can select clothing, school uniforms, and essentials for everyday living and now, sleeping, thanks to the bedding donation.

Chris Gould, company director of Goulds Stores, said: “Local community is important to us, and we always try to help where we can.

"When we heard a new warehouse was opening in the area, we contacted Gail, the organiser, to see how we could support Ukrainian families settle into their new local homes. These 50 duvets will hopefully help."

Gail Reynolds, organiser of Weymouth for Ukraine, said: “What a great donation. This generous gift from Goulds Stores is a welcome bonus and provides one of the essential, and often, most expensive items the families need.

"The bedding will go straight to the Ukrainian families who need it, whether they are guests of local people or finding independent accommodation. Thank you!”

The Weymouth for Ukraine warehouse opened its doors on May 31. It is the brainchild of Gail Reynolds and Caroline Whitely, who recognised Ukrainian families need access to essential items in Dorset.

Any donations to the warehouse at 10 Cambridge Road, Granby Industrial Estate, Weymouth, will be gratefully received. It is open from Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 12 noon.
