A mum has paid tribute to her much-loved daughter ahead of a Dorset music festival to be held in her memory.

Amy Quin died at the age of 36 on January 4, 2020. She had been diagnosed with a low-grade brain tumour in May 2016.

Quinfest will be held at Milborne St Andrew's Sports Pavilion from Friday, July 8 to Saturday, July 9 raising funds for charities and organisations that helped Amy and her family through her illness.

It is the perfect way to celebrate the legacy of fun-loving Amy, her mother Chrissie Quin said.

"We're doing it for her. Amy wanted it to be her legacy, she was a big personality, a bit of a free spirit and a very popular person who had the gift of the gab.

"She got on with everybody. She didn't have any enemies."

Amy, mum to 10-year-old Hector, lived in Piddletrenthide and worked at Flash Harry's barbers in Icen Way, Dorchester.

Some 450 people attended the funeral of popular Amy, who attended Lytchett Minster School.

Quinfest was first held in 2019 after Amy was diagnosed with a brain tumour and this year is the first time it will be held since her death.

Chrissie said: "We did it back in 2019 for Amy and all her friends and her schoolfriends turned up. she wanted me to do it again and she made me promise it would happen.

"This year is the first time we've had the chance to do it because of Covid."

Chrissie said her daughter made the most of life after she was diagnosed with the tumour.

"Amy had three and a half years after she was diagnosed. She knew it was going to get her in the end.

"We all clubbed together to get her a yellow Beatle which she loved driving and we took a trip to Australia to see family and we were treated like royalty and she saw sharks and turtles.

"One day she had a seizure and she went to hospital but she wanted to come home to die in her family home. She felt safe with all her family around her.

"We called Amy The Mighty Quin after the song. I know the grief will never go away. We're looking forward to Quinfest but we know it will be emotional."

Among the line-up for Quinfest are bands and musicians Nick Capaldi, Matt Black, Helena Mace, Downside Up, Damion Maston and The Haze.

People can camp at the festival and glamping options will be available. There will be plenty of entertainment for youngsters including arts and crafts, ice cream, fun and games and a bouncy castle.

Chrissie said she wants to thank main sponsor R Lukins Fitness and Amy's friend Laurie Griffin for her hard work co-organising Quinfest.
