RESIDENTS at a care home in Dorchester were treated to all the thrills of a sports day as part of national Care Home Open Week celebrations.

Cheriton Care Home hosted the event with residents, families, friends and care workers all getting involved with the fun.

Firm favourites such as the egg and spoon race, three-legged race and the sack race were all on the schedule for the day.

Denise Chrippes, manager at the care home, handed out the medals and residents rounded off the event with some well-earned afternoon tea and cake!

Madeleane Nock, a resident at Cheriton Care Home, thoroughly enjoyed the event and said: "It was fantastic, great fun and very well organised – definitely as good as the Olympics I’d say!

Mrs Chrippes said: “There’s been thrills and spills during what has been a wonderful afternoon with relatives, residents, friends and our care team all getting involved in the races and enjoying a real sense of achievement.”

An action-packed week of events took place at the home on Weymouth Avenue during the open week, including music and entertainment, trips out and about, visits by giant rabbits, arts and crafts and a Royal Cream Tea Party.
