WEST Dorset MP Chris Loder has revealed he’s backing Liz Truss to be Britain’s next Prime Minister.

He announced his support for the Foreign Secretary in his Echo column, saying he believed Ms Truss had the “delivery credentials and straight talking commitment for action” to move the country forward.

In his column, the MP said: “The leadership election has at least allowed us to move on and reflect on the issues that matter and what future we wish to see for our country.

"I believe Liz has the delivery credentials and straight talking commitment for action that is fundamentally needed to move this country forward.

“Throughout the course of this contest, my considerations first and foremost are who would be in the best interests of West Dorset”

He also said he’d be setting up a survey, available via his website, for constituents to express their thoughts on who should lead the country next and on what issues matter most to them.

Mr Loder’s backing takes Liz Truss to 26 confirmed endorsements with the support of 30 MPs required to advance through the first stage of voting which is due to be completed tonight.

Mr Loder was one of a number of MPs to publicly say they’d lost confidence in Boris Johnson last week.

As reported, Mr Loder said: "This is about trust and confidence and when that is eroded, it is incredibly difficult to get it back.

"I know many feel the same way, not only people of west Dorset but also my colleagues in Westminster.”

South Dorset MP Richard Drax, meanwhile, has confirmed he’ll be backing, Attorney General, Suella Braverman to become Johnson’s successor.
