AN ASSAULT in Weymouth has left a man and a woman with facial injuries.

This comes as police thank the council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Officers for their ‘vital’ help during the situation.

At around 12.50am on Monday (July 18), Police were called to reports of an assault in St Edmund Street where a woman and a man had sustained injuries to their faces.

The incident involved a large number of witnesses - ‘some of whom were heavily intoxicated’ said police, which made the incident challenging for officers.

A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: “We would like to send our thanks to the council's ASB officers for their help and assistance with an incident that occurred at around 12.50am on Monday 18 July 2022.

“The ASB officers were extremely professional and well organised. They remained with our officers throughout and were a vital resource in helping us secure evidence before it was lost. Several individuals nearly ended up receiving S35 dispersal orders and were spoken to by the ASB officers, leaving the scene without official action needing to be taken.

“Last night was again another excellent example of the value they provide to the community.”

Neither the man or woman went to hospital.
