A Dorset town has taken the number one spot as the top staycation caravan location.

As the cost of living has risen significantly in the past year, so has the amount of people opting for more affordable means of holidaying and with the picturesque landscape that the UK has to offer, holidays abroad are being overlooked for local staycations, particularly in caravans.

Taking the number one spot is Bridport due to a high number of local attractions, including beaches, affordable site rental and a higher average temperature of 17.3 degrees.

The town places in the top 20 for the number of attractions per 100,000 people, with an average ‘Caravan Staycation Score’ of 7.5/10.

The joint runners up Whitchurch and Clacton-on-Sea received a score of 7.3/10 and in 4th place was Salisbury with a score of 6.7/10.

The study looked at factors including the cost of caravan site rental for a week in July, road safety, reviews, attractions and the weather in July.

Research showed that on average Bridport had 148.2 road accidents per 100,000 people and an average caravan site rental cost of £149 as well as an average campsite review of 4.9/5.

The cheapest caravan pitch resided in Beccles, a market town on the Suffolk coast with an average cost of only £98 for a 7-night stay for two people which landed the number 5 spot on the list.
