AN INMATE who had been serving time at a Dorset prison must serve an additional six months in jail for possessing a mobile phone at the site.
Deano Harrison, aged 22, was charged with having in his possession a banned item, in this case a mobile phone and charger.
Harrison’s case was heard at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 22, where he entered a guilty plea.
The charge related to an incident at HMP YOI Portland on January 5 this year when Harrison was caught with the prohibited items.
As a result, the court ordered Harrison, now of HMP Channings Wood, to pay a £128 victim surcharge and handed him a six-month prison sentence to be served consecutive to a one year custodial sentence previously imposed.
An order was also made for the mobile phone and charger to be forfeited and destroyed.
